More New Umpires

During the closed season and up until recently, our Development team has been trying to carry out further practicals for all those who attended previous theory courses. We have completed around half of the practical sessions now but we still have some people out there needing to be watched to become level 1 umpires. Some of the watchings have shown some good umpiring talent for the future. Our Development Coach will be contacting those not watched soon! 15/10/10

New Rules for 2010 Season

The new Hockey season has started. A reminder to all Umpires and players, that there are new rules added to the game at the start of the new season 2010-11,

There are 2 minor changes and they are

1) The part of Rule 13.1which refers to a free hit awarded inside the circle to the defence has been simplified by deleting the option of taking the hit “anywhere inside the circle”

2) A new Rule (13.7 in this edition) has been introduced to bring together the penalties which apply for an offence during the taking of a penalty corner. The penalties which apply for an offence during the taking of a penalty stroke (Rule 13.10) have been made fairer and clearer

These new rules are expected to last for at least 2 years up until the Olympics

The FIH rules that we should all be playing and umpiring to, can be found HERE 15/10/10

New Season, More Umpires Wanted

Clubs if you would like your club to have more umpires, please get in touch with the Umpires Development Officer who is Ian Wright. He is now looking at getting courses laid on for individual clubs, rather than running large separate courses

Please note all official training courses are carried out through the Umpires Association development officer who is presently Ian Wright. If any official course are to be run Ian must know they are going ahead 15/11/10
